Instant Training, leading provider of health and safety training, is encouraging businesses and organisations which require its staff to utilise harnesses as a part of their jobs to invest in the appropriate training course to minimise risk and maximise staff safety at work.
The firm, which offers accredited courses by IPAF, PASMA and The Ladder Association, is concerned that despite changes in health and safety legislation earlier this year, some employers may still be avoiding or not actively pursuing health and safety training for colleagues.
Helen Carr, Managing Director of Instant Training, said, “At the end of the day, we want to help employers who perhaps may not be aware of changes in the law or may be so busy that they may forget organising and implementing the appropriate training courses and procedures for their colleagues.”
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 was amended as a result of the introduction of the Health and Safety (Offences) Act 2008, which now means that company directors and managers turning a blind eye to the provision of risk management and, of course, health and safety at work could find themselves being jailed for up to two years.
Ms. Carr added, “Take, for example, the IPAF Safety Harness course that we offer. This course aims to provide those undertaking it with a thorough insight into the safe use and inspection of safety harnesses, covering the appropriate legislation such as the Work at Height Regulations 2005. Additionally, the one-day course also ensures that both theoretical and practical methods are used, giving delegates the opportunity to really appreciate the importance of safety harnesses. Employers who are not providing such courses to their staff risk fines, legal cases and perhaps even going to jail, so one wonders why they take a risk when staff could undergo a one-day course and upon successful completion gain a five-year licence!”
